I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault Review – Part 1

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault Review – Part 1

The Chocolate Vault is one of the Christmas Gifts from Revolution this year. At full price, it costs £80 but is currently reduced on Superdrugs site to £60. They’ve also appeared on Revolution Beauty‘s website costing £72. Revolution claims there is £100 worth of product inside.

So let’s take a quick look at what’s inside.

i-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Vault-Inside

There are 6 Chocolate bar palettes, each regularly priced at £8.99 each. 2 highlighter palettes, each regularly priced at £6 each. Three lipglosses which retail around the £3-£4 price mark.

Now I’m sure if you’re like me you’re wondering how that adds up to £100. It’s actually closer to £78. According to the Revolution team, it was a misprint.

So that aside let’s look at what we have for our money.

First, we have 3 non-exclusive palettes in the form of the Lemon Drizzle Palette, Macaroon Palette and Salted Caramel Palette. Of these three, Salted Caramel has been out the longest and the other two are very recent releases. Salted Caramel is also in the old design.

The 3 exclusive palettes are Smores Palette, Cranberries & Chocolate Palette and Strawberry Cheesecake palette. Smores is a warm brown palette, Cranberries and Chocolate is a warm-toned brown/red palette and Strawberry Cheesecake is a cooler toned pink palette.

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Vault-All-PalettesNext, we have two exclusive face palettes. The Praline and Chocolate Strawberry palettes. One is a highlighter palette and the other a blush and contour palette. These seem to be more suited to the light to medium end of the spectrum but could work for darker skin tones too.

There are also 3 lip glosses in 3 different fragrances. Praline is a warm light brown colour with a sweet fragrance. Salted Caramel is a cool light brown colour with a salted chocolate fragrance and Chocolate Cherry is a berry red with a cherry fragrance.

So that’s the basics of the set. Do you like it? Are you asking for it for Christmas?

More in-depth reviews of the palettes and gloss will come in future posts. Stay tuned!

Pink Parcel Unboxing & Review December 2018 #TreatYourselfEdit

Pink Parcel Unboxing & Review December 2018 #TreatYourselfEdit

This month we do not have a video unboxing as I did not film at all in December due to real life issues. So instead we’re doing a post if you’d like to know what was in the box keep on reading.

What is it?

The Pink Parcel is a monthly subscription box designed to make that time of the month a little bit better.

What’s in it?

Every month you’ll receive your choice of pads or tampons from a variety of brands. You’ll always receive night pads because Toxic Shock is a thing.
The exciting bit is the ‘For You’ box. Pink Parcel promises you £40 of treats each month. Every month you’ll get a tea of a different variety to try and a sweet treat. The sweet treat is often chocolate and often vegan too! They’re always yummy (in my opinion) and sometimes are packed with superfoods too.
You’ll then always receive five other health, wellbeing and beauty items. These range from face masks to essential oils to lipsticks.

So What’s The Cost?

This UK based box costs £12.99 including postage. You can get it here from the Pink Parcel Website. This link is a referral link and will get you your first box for £9.99.
There are also subscription plans should you chose to take them up.

Lord & Berry 20100 Maximate Crayon Lipstick in Here & Now.

Apply the creamy, long-lasting formula to create your statement lip for the festive season. Sunset red was a big hit on the AW18 catwalks and the easy-to-wear shade looks gorge on all skin tones. Worth £15 from the Pink Parcel shop.

Pink-Parcel-December-2018-Manna-Kadar-Glow-Illuminator

Manna Kadar Glo Illuminator

Add radiance by mixing with foundation on the back on your hand or applying to bare skin after moisturising. The sheer formula works well with most skin tones and adds a natural-looking luminous glow that’s perfect for perking-up dull, lacklustre winter skin. Worth £22 from the Pink Parcel Shop
I have had this before from another box and it’s not the best. It’s also the 4th possibly the 5th cream highlighter/illuminator product from the Pink Parcel this year. Very disappointing.

Pink-Parcel-December-2018-OK-Cherry-Lip-Mask

OK! Cherry Lip Mask

Remove the hydrogel mask from the tray and apply to clean dry lips. Leave for up to 20 minutes to intensely hydrate and moisturise your pout. This K Beauty creation with wild cherry and violet extracts is perfect for prepping lips before lipstick. Worth £4.50 from the Pink Parcel shop.

Pink-Parcel-December-2018-Anatomicals-Leader-Of-The-Hair-Pack

Anatomicals The Leader of the Hair Pack

After shampooing and towel drying your hair, apply the mask liberally from root to tip and then seal the deal by tying your hair up in a bun and covering with a shower cap. Put your feet up while the jojoba oil enriched formula brings life back to dry and damaged locks. Worth £1 from the Pink Parcel Shop.
This is another repeat but this one is from June 2017’s box.

Pink-Parcel-December-2018-Balance-Me-Micellar-Water

Balance Me Micellar Water

The first of two items not included on the card. This one was previously sent to us in July of 2018. I actually liked this sample so I’m okay having it again. This is a sample size, the full size is £16.

Pink-Parcel-December-2018-Dilmah-Chocolate-Turmaric-Tea

Dalmah Natural Infusions, Chocolate, Turmeric, Ginger & Almond Tea

Not much of a tea drinker? Try this blend. With rich flavours of chocolate, almond and a touch of ginger, this is a perfect cuppa for when you’re in the mood for something sweet and comforting but have already overdone it on the office treats. £2.19 for 20 bags from DalmahTea.co.uk

Pinkl-Parcel-December2018-Candy-Kittens

Candy Kittens

No information on this as it was not included on the card at all. They are Vegan and I know the RRP is £1. I can’t say I enjoyed these. The brand has previously been featured in August 2018.

Overall this box is a huge disappointment, not only are two of the items substituted but there’s no reason why or note to tell you about the replacements. On top of that the For Now bag is another repeat of a couple of months ago and on top of that, it was late by a whole week.

I’ve decided to cancel, which I’ll detail in a later post. However, if you’d still like one this UK based box costs £12.99 including postage. You can get it here from the Pink Parcel Website. This link is a referral link and will get you your first box for £9.99.
There are also subscription plans should you chose to take them up.

Harry Potter Wizarding World Slytherin Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Harry Potter Wizarding World Slytherin Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

At this point, I have to state I can’t hate anyone who’s sick of Harry Potter. It’s a cultural phenomenon at this point in the same way Star Wars is. I myself who stayed up to buy the books as soon as they came out, as someone who went in costume to the films I am getting a little tired of the way it’s saturated our culture.

But then again it means we get things like these palettes from The Wizarding World Exclusively Boots.

Harry-Potter-Wizarding-World-Slytherin-Palette

Sadly for me, that’s really where the joy ends.

Harry-Potter-Wizarding-World-Slytherin-Palette-InsideThere are of course 4 palettes, one for the Gryffindors, Slytherins, Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. They cost £12.50 each and are currently available at Boots in the Christmas 3 for 2. They have 6 x 1.2g of shadow and expire 12 months from opening. They are not vegan-friendly. Ingredients are listed towards the end of the post.

The problem with these palettes is not so much the design. It’s simple and I prefer the cardboard packaging, it’s much more environmentally friendly. It’s more along the lines of the shadows themselves. Of course, each palette is really limited by the fact they’ve tried to stick to the colours of each house.
The Slytherin Palette is also very limited in the fact that all of them bar one shadow is a shimmer shade. That happens to be the black shade. Now I am a shimmer fan but it’s not really practical for everyday use. It would have been better to have at least one more neutral in a matte colour.
There’s also a strange combination of cool and warm in the palette. A very cool toned silver with a golden toned neutral and a golden shift on a warm green. It’s not the best combination.
It’s also not really great unless you’re of the beige persuasion.

Then there’s the performance of the shadows themselves.

Harry-Potter-Wizarding-World-Slytherin-Palette-Swatches

They finger swatch very well but I found them quite hard to pick up on a brush and then blend on the eye. They foil incredibly but as I said they’re all shimmer so that’s really not practical.

In all, I’m not a massive fan of this palette and have been unable to swatch the others. For me, it’s a nice gift for your Harry Potter fan that’s kinda into makeup. If they’re really into it, then pass and go for the brushes.

Lime Crime Pin Set Review

Lime Crime Pin Set Review

Lime-Crime-Pin-Set

As part of Lime Crime’s birthday celebrations, they released a pin set. Since I like pins I thought I get this set. It costs $6 (roughtly £5) and is only available on LimeCrime.com.

There’s three pins in the set. Lime Crime in a heart, a rose and a pot of hair dye.

I think they’re very pretty and they seem well made.

Lime-Crime-Pins-Back

The backs are plastic hearts which is a nice touch and means they won’t snag on your clothes. Not that I’ll be wearing them out I’d not want to lose them. I’d like to have seen a lipstick as part of this collection, it’s something they were known for.

They’re cute though and I like them. If you’re a fan of Lime Crime, you’ll want to add these to your collection.

Body Shop Peppermint Candy Cane Range Review

Body Shop Peppermint Candy Cane Range Review

Step into the Enchanted Forest and discover our magical collection of seasonal scents for 2018. Shop Peppermint Candy Cane from, body care and fragrance to get in that festive spirit!

Body-Shop-Peppermint-Candy-Collection

This year one of the limited edition scents from the Body Shop is Peppermint Candy Cane. Being a fan of mint I went to check it out and I loved it. So I decided to get a few pieces. I would have bought a body spray in it if one had been available but sadly not.  However, let’s go over what I did decide to pick up.

I also don’t know if you’re aware but every transaction at the Body Shop this Christmas helps to protect and re-wild forest in England and Armenia. So you’re doing good as well as getting some sweet smelling stuff.

Body-Shop-Peppermint-Candy-Cane-Bath-Bomb

First is the rather cute reindeer bath bomb in the peppermint candy cane scent. This little one costs £1.50 and is packed full of skin-friendly oils. I’ve used mine and it doesn’t really fizz. The colour of the water is a light mint green with that lovely peppermint candy cane scent. I liked it but I didn’t love it even though my skin felt great after.

Body-Shop-Peppermint-Candy-Cane-Shower-Lotion

The Peppermint Candy Cane shower gel comes only in the larger size, 250ml. So this will last you well over the Christmas period. It costs £5 and I’m going to say it again that scent. It’s quite strong in the shower and does linger on the skin afterwards. It foams nicely too. I like this one.

Body-Shop-Peppermint-Candy-Cane-Body-Butter

The body butter is available in two sizes. One smaller travel size costing £6 and the larger 200 ml costing £15. The scent in this is very strong. Combined with the shower gel you do not need to wear perfume, I’ve had several people comment on how nice I smell. Other than the smell, which I keep going on about this is the same formula as the regular body butter and is intensely moisturising. It’s thick but sinks in fast and leaves your skin silky soft. I’d recommend the larger size if you’re going for the shower gel as I can run through the smaller one in less than a month.

Body-Shop-Peppermint-Candy-Cane-Hand-Cream

The last thing I purchased from the range was the hand cream. It’s the smaller size and I can get through these in a month. I like the formula as it skins in quickly and with the scent of this one, I can’t stop using it. This one costs £5.

There were a few things I passed on. The soap, body scrub and the body lotion. Over the winter I prefer thicker lotions for my skin and I currently have enough scrub and soap. If you’d like any of these you can get them from your local store or online.

Are you picking anything up from this range?

2019 – These are a few of my favourite things.

2019 – These are a few of my favourite things.

I’ve decided I’m going to do 2019 a little differently and by that I mean this year I’m going to use my favourite products instead of using the items I want to be moved out of my collection as I have been.

So What Did I Learn in 2018?

I struggle with no buys but I have learnt what helps me stick to it.
The first was listing everything I own including all new purchases before I can use them with the cost attached. Going Cruelty-Free and Vegan in my collection really helped. Technically everything in the UK is Cruelty-Free but sticking to tighter guidelines really helped. Thinking about environmental waste that comes from not only the making of the products I’m buying but the items I am then destashing. Lastly, Beauty Guru drama. I mean Kat Von D coming out as an anti-vaxxer definitely put the breaks on wanting her stuff.

I’m getting bored with Project Panning. When I first started Project Panning it seemed like a great way to move items out of my collection but at that point, I had no idea how long it took to use up certain items. I’m definitely over the 18 in 18 project pans and the roulette-style projects.
I like having options. One of the Project Pans I was doing last year was called Bullseye. It was me targetting everything that I had from a certain brand and I liked it because it left me with a lot of lip options.
I also like not having options but only if it’s when I’m using a product that has options, such as eyeshadow palette panning. I’ve found being restricted to the Venus 2 has forced me to be more creative with it when before I was stumped on what to do with it.

Saving empties has taught me all it’s going to. In 2017 I saved everything, skincare, haircare and makeup items. It was revealing how much and how little I was using of each item. 2018 has been me just saving my makeup empties and it’s really only taught me the same as last year, just a smaller bag at the end. I think saving my rubbish has done its job. I know how much I use in a year and how long it’s going to take me to use what I have.

Collection Results

So as part of my tracking I’ve kept a record of how much my collection cost and how many of each item I had at the beginning of the year. So at the beginning of the year, I had £5866.24 worth of product, the end of the year I have £5883.95 worth of product. So there’s a difference of £17.71. That’s terrible. I wanted it to be so much better and I needed to try and work out why.

Setting Spray N/A £59.99 (4) N/A

From the figures here I can see I only destashed/used up 37 items overall and that the replacements, in general, cost me more than before.

Breaking down the rest of it, I have an entirely new category, brows. That’s added an extra 9 items and £48 to my total. I don’t see those values changing due to how long those items last and the changing colour of my hair.
Blush and contour were together and despite only losing 2 items has actually lost £69.19 in value. I have unfortunately gained a whole lot of contour products due to ill-advised purchases. As I don’t use these I need to move a lot of these out of my collection.
The primer category has split as well. Total items remain the same but value has jumped by £67. That means cheaper items have been replaced with full size/more expensive ones. I’m hoping to reduce this one next year.
The major increase is with my eyeshadow palettes. This is one I am very much unhappy with. The value has increased £400 and the count by 10. That does, however, mean I’ve been picking higher value palettes which have raised the mean cost of each palette.
The overall trend seems to be to replace cheaper items with more expensive ones but even that needs to stop, especially in the eyeshadow department.

Skincare wasn’t really tracked this year but I have been aware of what I have and haven’t moved out. It’s definitely grown and a section I do not need to buy any items in at all next year. Most of the new items have not been purchased during the year, they’ve either come from my Pink Parcel or in the Body Shop Advent Calendar I get at the end of the year.

The Plan

There’s a No Buy happening for me. It’s happened because not only do I want to stop spending but also because of my credit card. I rarely used it last year so that the balance would go down and therefore so would the payments. Only my card company had other plans. They’ve not raised the interest, just the minimum payments to a level that’s a little uncomfortable for my income. Of course, if I say I can’t do it they’ll consider it defaulting so I’m leaving it as is and dealing with having no spare cash. At least my balance will shrink faster.

I am going to ‘Destash’ everything down to what I think is my ideal collection. By destash I mean box up and place in the storage space under my bed. This will only leave me with the stuff I really want to use, most of which I’ve been putting off using because it’s my favourite.

So my ideal collection consists of mainly Lime Crime items. They’re the bulk of my products this year, with lips and eyeshadow mainly covered by Lime Crime. The one area I am not keeping my Lime Crime items out is highlighter. I’ve got someone ones I LOVE from Revolution, so I’ll be using those to start off with. I’ll be keeping out only one mascara, the rest will go in my ‘destash/backup’ until that one is used. I’ve picked out my Revolution Pro eyeshadow base because I was impressed and I’ve been wanting to use it for a while. I’ve basically scrapped contour although I am keeping out a palette with a contour in it.

The only exception to the use what I love first is my foundations. I have barely used most of my foundations, so I needed to do something different. For that, I decided I’d use a different one every month until I’ve used them all and then decide which ones I like and am maybe going to keep.

As for skin care, I’m going with the same use what I like the best first and for me, that’s all the items from the Body Shop Advent Calendar. It’s also its own kind of Project Pan as I am going to see if I can use all the items out of the calendar up before December 2019. I am also going to track the value and number of items in my collection at the start of the year as well. So just like MakeUp, I can see how and where I’ve either failed or improved. For that, you need to see my numbers. They are as follows.

Category Value Total Items
Body Lotion £128.99 14
Body Scrub £50 6
Body Wash £168.83 26
Cleansers £351.61 20
Eye Cream £226.99 7
Eye MakeUp Remover £17.95 3
Face Masks £477.94 21
Face Oil £209.90 5
Foot Cream £9.50 1
Hand Cream £112.48 13
Lip Balm £58.42 9
Moisturizer £280.15 16
Serum £64 4
Toners £61 4

So that’s the plan here is in the immortal words of Buffy Summers ‘Seize the day, because tomorrow you might be dead’.

What are yours for next year?

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart Gift Set – MakeUp Palettes Review & Swatches – Peanut Butter Cup & Red Velvet

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart Gift Set – MakeUp Palettes Review & Swatches – Peanut Butter Cup & Red Velvet

We’ve seen the face palettes, let’s take a look at the makeup pigment palettes. The name makeup pigment palettes tell me at least some of these are not eyeshadows, I think especially in the Red Velvet palette to get a bright colour.

The palettes are all in the same shape as the I Heart Revolution Chocolate range. They’ve got the melting chocolate palette design on the front. Normally these kinds of palettes retail for £8.99. There’s two in this set. The Peanut Butter Cup palette and the Red Velvet set.

Peanut Butter Cup

I-Heart-Revolution-Peanut-Butter-Cup-Palette

I-Heart-Revolution-Peanut-Butter-Cup-Palette-Inside

The Peanut Butter Cup palette smells a bit like peanut butter. I’m not fond of the smell but it doesn’t last on the face.

I-Heart-Revolution-Peanut-Butter-Cup-Palette-Swatch

As for the swatches, as you can see they’re quite strong colours. A few of them are quite stiff but they blend very well. It’s about on par with the usual Chocolate palettes. There’ of course a very warm overall tone to this palette but there are a few cooler undertones too. It’s of course very yellow toned overall.

I do like it but I’m struggling with ideas on how to use them all. Some of the colours are very similar so of course, will blend into one another but that can also be useful for a seamless gradient. Overall I like this one more than I thought I would.

Red Velvet

I-Heart-Revolution-Red-Velvet-Palette

I-Heart-Revolution-Red-Velvet-Palette-Inside

The Red Velvet palette was the one of the two I was the most excited for but the one that let me down the most. There are a fair few tones in here that are too close to the Peanut Butter Cup palette for my liking.  It’s a slightly cooler-toned palette.

I-Heart-Revolution-Red-Velvet-Palette-Swatches

Frosting is the first I’m going to mention because you can’t really see the two-toned nature on my arm. That flash of pink is what you can see. It’s a nice flash but can get lost. Beetroot is really quite patchy and better off as a transition shade or inner corner highlight.
I’ve found these shades to be harder to blend. They’re not unworkable but they’re not great either. If this was a single palette I’d say skip this one. As part of the set, I think it brings it down a bit.

Overall they’re not bad palettes, Red Velvet is not great though.

If you’d like it you can get yours online at Revolution or Superdrug.

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart Gift Set – Praline Chocolate Face Palette Review & Swatches

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart Gift Set – Praline Chocolate Face Palette Review & Swatches

Today we’re taking a look inside the I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart gift set. Specifically the face products inside.

I-Heart-Revolution-Praline-Chocolate-Face-Palette-Outside

The Praline Chocolate Face palette has three different products in the one palette. There are a bronzer, a baked blush and three highlighters. In total there’s 18g of product and it’s all vegan.

I-Heart-Revolution-Praline-Chocolate-Face-Palette-Inside

As I said in my overview of the set, I think this particular palette isn’t the best because it tries to please everyone.

  • Temper is the bronzer and has nice pigmentation with a cool undertone. It can be built up too.
  • Ripple is the blush. It’s baked, which I’m personally not a fan of. it’s also not completely matte but compliments the other colours in this set.
  • Bon Bon is a peachy highlighter. It’s a little too dark for my skin but has a lovely shine.
  • Praline is a gold highlighter. It’s warm and very pigmented, definitely better for deeper skin tones.
  • Fondant is an icy white highlighter great for the wet look.

I-Heart-Revolution-Praline-Chocolate-Face-Palette-Swatches

They are as usual for Revolution highlighters really pigmented. The blush is less so but can be built up.

Next out of the package is the Chocolate Heart Bronzer.

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Heart-Bronzer

There’s 10g of baked bronzer in here. It’s much warmer than the bronzer in the Praline Chocolate palette and has golden shimmers in it. Of the two bronzers, I prefer this one as it really does warm the face. It is also much lighter (although a little buildable), so suited to the lighter end of the spectrum.

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Heart-Bronzer-Swatch

So what do you think of the face palettes? Have you asked Father Christmas for this set?

If you’d like it you can get yours online at Revolution or Superdrug.

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart MakeUp Gift Set Review – Part One

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Heart MakeUp Gift Set Review – Part One

The I Heart Revolution Chocolate gift set is one of the Christmas releases from Revolution this year. Full retail price is listed as £40 although the contents are not worth that. There is even a sticker on the front that lists the value of the items inside as worth £33.

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Heart-Gift-Set

So let’s take a look inside shall we?

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Heart-Inside

Contained in this set are two makeup pigment palettes, one face palette and one chocolate heart bronzer.

The makeup pigment palettes are the ‘exclusive shades’ Peanut Butter Cup and Red Velvet. Each palette has 18g of product and would normally retail around the £8.99 mark.

The face palette has 1 one bronzer, one baked blush and three highlighters. It has g of product. I do not have a retail price for this as Revolution does not do something similar, it would probably cost around the same as the eye palettes given it is the same size and shape.

The Chocolate Heart bronzer is a backed bronzer in the same style as the others from I Heart Revolution. It has 10g of product and would normally retail for around the £5 mark.

In general, I like this set but I don’t feel it’s worth the full retail value. Is it worth £40? No. even adding all the cost of the products together you don’t even hit the £33 value listed on the front. Under £30, yes I can see the value here.

So what do you think? Is it worth it?

If you’d like it you can get yours online at Revolution or Superdrug.
