Why I have cancelled my Pink Parcel Subscription after 2 and a half years

Why I have cancelled my Pink Parcel Subscription after 2 and a half years

I’m going to start this by saying I used to love this box. I clearly did as I have been subscribed to it since May of 2016. It used to be a nice surprise every month with varied items such as candles, jewellery and the occasional beauty items in it. This past year has been a decided change with more beauty items being received on a regular basis.

The decision to cancel was confirmed by the absolute mess that was Decembers box and that was reinforced by another poor box in January. Pink Parcel’s communication has been shockingly poor for the past few months. Boxes were apparently delayed due to problems with Royal Mail labels. This was not communicated to customers unless you asked. As a result, my box was 6 days late in December and only shipped when I asked about it. This in itself is bad enough but then to find the contents weren’t what was advertised on the leaflet made it worse.

Again clarity on why the contents are different was not communicated with customers unless they complained. Even then it was because there were ‘issues’. Top that off with two duplicate items, one of which was from this year and another cream highlighter product. As you can imagine, we the customers are not happy. I expect far better from such a well-established subscription box.

The one thing that cemented my decision to cancel is January’s box. I decided to get it as I had a discount but I wish I’d not bothered. This box was one of the worst.

First, it was late. Only a couple of days but it was enough with all the other problems to be one of the final straws.
Again no leaflet. Not a single bit of information with the box, this was in fact emailed to me over 5 days after my box was due to arrive. I’ll admit I didn’t even read it, just deleted. I was so annoyed by it.
The contents felt like they’d been thrown together, which is an impression that was not helped by the lack of information. There were three face masks! THREE! For something that’s not supposed to be a beauty box why would I want three facemasks in a single month? Even in a beauty box unless it was specifically a face mask month I’d be a little put out. To add insult to injury, one of those face masks was a repeat from October last year. I mean really?
The chocolate we received was even a repeat item. I’m generally okay with the two small pieces, after all, they are a portion but it felt like a bit of a smack in the face on this box.
One of the items is my least favourite thing to receive in beauty boxes (which this isn’t even supposed to be) dry shampoo. I’ve never found an expensive one that works with my oily scalp. The other item was an eye cream that I’d had before from other beauty boxes.

All the reasons I left other beauty boxes were represented here. Repeats and multiples of items I don’t use. All in the one box.

So I went and totalled it up.  Of 60 items we received this year (not including the tea and sweets) we only got 5 lifestyle items. Three of those were in the first 2 months as well.

And then when I cancelled I got this via email.

IMG_1467

What is this? I have to say it really annoyed me. I mean I think it was supposed to come across as sorry to see you leave but it came across more as we’re cancelling you. Honestly, they seem to be very tone deaf right now.

So I’ve cancelled. I don’t want another beauty box. That’s specifically why I left Birchbox and Glossybox in favour of this one. Pink Parcel has lost the thing that made it unique. So It’s time we part ways. You were a good box. Maybe one day you will be again.

EDIT: It has come to my attention that there is a post from the CEO on the Pink Parcel website. It’s a great post and I feel it answers why 2018 boxes were so poor in my opinion. I do applaud him for speaking so bluntly about this. There are no excuses, just an explanation and promises of a better tomorrow.
Sadly it comes too late for me. Had I read this a week ago I might not have ended my subscription but now given I can not get it at the rate I had I will pass at least for this year. I will, however, keep an eye on the PP and see if it improves.

I Heart Revolution ChocolateVault – Salted Caramel Palette Review & Swatches – Part 5

I Heart Revolution ChocolateVault – Salted Caramel Palette Review & Swatches – Part 5

The Salted Caramel Chocolate Palette is one of the non-exclusive palettes in the Chocolate Vault. It’s available separately for £9 from Revolution Beauty. It is vegan and cruelty-free. It has a 12-month shelf life once opened.

Who loves salted caramel?
Revolution brings you the best salted caramel recipe. There is no better combination than these 16 shimmer and matte addictive shades. From delicious nudes to tempting pinks to bring you salt and sweet at the same time.

It’s sweet, it’s buttery, it’s salted caramel goodness.

I-Heart-Revolution-Salted-Caramel-Chocolate-Palette-Inside

As you can see this is also one of the older palettes from the inside design. There are two fewer shades than you get in the newer palettes because there are two large highlight shades. Great if you’re of lighter skin tone, the reverse if you’re not. The names are also on a plastic sheet rather than the packaging itself.
As a result, it’s the older formula, that means while it’s still good it’s not as good as the newer palettes. They’re a little drier and harder to blend but they’re by no means unworkable. They’re more like your regular highstreet shadows.

I-Heart-Revolution-Salted-Caramel-Chocolate- Palette-Swatch

It’s a good range of colours if you’re into the range of brown neutral tones again. There are two pops of colour. One more of a navy blue and one pink. They’re both shimmer shades, although it’s more obvious in the pink. This one mostly contains matte shades with only 6 shimmers overall.

If you’d like this one on its own it’s available at Revolution Beauty for £9

Closing off my Project Pans from 2018

So as you can tell from my favourite thing post, I’m not really doing Project Pans this year. Instead, I’m just using my collection to get the best out of it. I do however need to close down my old project pans and maybe show you what I’m up to this year.

Project Bullseye

My major project last year was Project Bullseye, which was targetting my Colourpop items. This one was fairly successful. I knew I’d not get through all of my Colourpop lipsticks and that turned out to be true.
One of the reasons I targeted Colourpop was the Super Shock formula of the eyeshadows, blusher and highlighters I had. This formula dries out fairly fast and I wanted to use everything up before that happened. Even with daily use on most of these items I still wasn’t able to use them up but I was able to repurpose them in other ways, such as mixing them in my body lotion. Most of the formulas I had were sheer and full of glitter, so that made them easy to use. I made great headway on the lipsticks in my collection from them.
I’m down from 40 items to 11 items. That’s a massive 29 items used up. Those items are 4 highlighters, 2 blushes, 8 eye shadows, 11 liquid lipsticks, 3 lipsticks and one gloss. This one I had intended to continue but target a different brand. So as soon as this year is over I’ll pick a brand and go for it again.

Project One Pan

Next up was my rolling project pan, called Project One Pan. This one was a little different because I was using a palette until I hit pan on a single shade and then switching it out. I used only 3 different palettes last year because it takes a while to hit pan and I think I really needed to learn that. Only one of those palettes remained in my collection and that one took 6 months to hit pan on.

The three palettes I used were the Christmas Palette from Revolutions 2017 Advent Calendar, the Eat Sleep Makeup Repeat Palette from Revolution Beauty and the Venus 2 palette from Lime Crime. If you’d like to see how they went I’ve linked the videos for them above.

Venus-2-Update
The current state of my Venus 2 palette with a small pan in Fly.

Lime-Crime-Venus-2-Fly-PanUnsurprisingly the Venus 2 is the one that took me 6 months of daily use to hit pan on. I’ve hit pan on the shade Fly and I have to say it’s my favourite shade in this palette. It’s the most versatile to go with the others too. I will be very sad when this shade goes as I can’t find a similar shade to replace it with while I use the others.

If anything this is where I want to go with my collection moving forwards. I’m currently doing the PAW project (Palette A Week) but I know I have at least one that like the Venus 2, I need more time to try them out. So as soon as I’m done with my curated collection I shall be going back to this one.

Project Pan

The one Project Pan that has survived the new year is the one you’ll hear me talk about the least. It’s my Marathon Project of using up the Black Palette by Urban Decay. I was going to end this one at the same time as the others but the reason it was chosen in 2018 is the same reason why it’s still going on this year. That’s because it’s a great companion palette. I have quite a few palettes without deeper colours so this helps with all of those.

Urban-Decay-Black-Palette-Jan-2019

So this one remains in play and as I previously have said I will update you next when I’ve hit pan on one of the colours. For now though here’s how it’s doing right now vs how it looked at the start. I am well aware there seems to be little change but it’s actually very pigmented and you need so little to deepen an eye look.

That’s the state of my project pans, past and current. Are you doing any project pans? Let me know in the comment section below.

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Lemon Drizzle Chocolate Palette Review & Swatches – Part 4

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Lemon Drizzle Chocolate Palette Review & Swatches – Part 4

The Lemon Drizzle Chocolate Palette is one of the non-exclusive palettes in the Chocolate Vault. It’s available separately for £9 from Revolution Beauty. It’s not Vegan but it is cruelty-free. It has a 12-month shelf life once opened.

I-Heart-Revolution-Lemon-Drizzle-Chocolate-Palette

I Heart Revolution Lemon Drizzle Chocolate Palette will make your mouth water with a yummy combination of 18 refreshing shades. This sweet-scented mixture of 10 yellow, brown, red and nude mattes and 8 warm metallics makes creating playful makeup looks a piece of cake.

I-Heart-Revolution-Lemon-Drizzle-Chocolate-Palette-Inside

It’s a collection of warm-toned yellows and oranges with a combination of matte and 8 shimmer shades. There’s only one real cool tone shade and that’s delicious. It’s a little out of place but you can certainly make it work.

I-Heart-Revolution-Lemon-Drizzle-Chocolate-Palette-Swatches

These swatch well on the arm and go well on the eye too. There are enough deeper shades to do a nice brown smokey eye.

One thing to note is Fluffy and Tangy, which are both shimmer shades are very similar when you swatch them. One they eye they look nearly identical which is a shame.

I do like this palette, so if you’d like it you can get it separately to the set for £9.

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Smores Palette Review and Swatches – Part 3

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Smores Palette Review and Swatches – Part 3

The Smores Palette from I Heart Revolution is exclusive to the I Heart Revolution Vault, which you can get from Revolution Beauty or Superdrug for £72. It is Vegan and of course Cruelty-Free.

I-Heart-Revolution-Smores-Palette

The outside has lovely white chocolate drips on, which makes it easy to find in your Chocolate palette collection.

I-Heart-Revolution-Smores-Chocolate-Palette-Inside

The inside is full of warmer tones in neutral colours. There’s a nice mixture of matte and shimmers in here for that perfect brown smokey eye. The mattes blend well and the shimmers look amazing when they’re foiled.

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Smores-Palette-Swatches

It’s a particularly good palette if you’re fond of the neutral brown eye look. It’s got just enough foil shades to take it from day to night.

I like this palette and it’s great for the price. It’s currently exclusive to the Vault but I won’t be surprised if in the future we see this one as a single release.

The Smores Palette from I Heart Revolution is exclusive to the I Heart Revolution Vault, which you can get from Revolution Beauty or Superdrug for £72.

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Lipglosses Review & Swatches – Praline, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Cherry – Part 2

I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault – Lipglosses Review & Swatches – Praline, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Cherry – Part 2

As part of the I Heart Revolution Chocolate Vault set we get three lipglosses. Two are exclusive to the vault with the third being already part of the I Heart Revolution range. They contain 2.5ml of product and have a 12-month shelf life once opened. They are cruelty-free but while the Salted Caramel gloss is Vegan I can’t guarantee the others are.

I-Heart-Revolution-Vault-Glosses

I was surprised at how much I like these. I am not a gloss person but these are not sticky at all. They, of course, won’t last once you start eating and they are all quite sheer. This, however, is a feature of all glosses, so I can’t count that against them. They are all quite heavily fragranced but that doesn’t last on the lips. However, if you’re allergic to fragrance this might cause an issue.

Salted Caramel

I-Heart-Revolution-Salted-Caramel-Lipgloss-Swatch

This is the one that’s available to buy separately for £3 from Superdrug or Revolution Beauty. It’s a light cool nude colour. This one has a salty smell. It looks good on me and I like it.

Praline

I-Heart-Revolution-Lipgloss-Praline-Swatch

As you can see Praline and Salted Caramel are pretty much the same colour but Praline is the pinker version. This one has a very sweet smell.

Chocolate Cherry

I-Heart-Revolution-Chocolate-Cherry-Lipgloss-Swatch

Chocolate Cherry smells like cherry and is the most opaque of them but also sheer. It looks very dark in the tube but goes a lovely shade on the lips.

All in all, I like these glosses. Do you like them?

The vault is still available from Superdrug or Revolution Beauty.
