MakeUp Revolution Intense Lip Lacquers in Rebel, Paparazzi and Depravity Review & Swatch

MakeUp Revolution Intense Lip Lacquers in Rebel, Paparazzi and Depravity Review & Swatch

I purchased these three Intense Lip Lacquers a little while back (just over two months ago) and in true beauty blogger fashion hadn’t opened them until I had chance to swatch them. I bought 3 colours. Depravity, Rebel and Paparazzi. They cost £3 each and are available from the Makeup Revolution website.

They’re glosses that come with doe foot applicators. You can get quite a clean edge with these and the colour is nice and strong.
Depravity is perhaps the one with the poorest colour pay off. In the end I’ll probably use it for putting on top of my Matte Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer when I don’t want the feeling of dry lips but want the great colour pay off.
Rebel ends up being a lovely shade of crimson and Paparazzi is a lovely shade of Barbie pink. They’ve got good coverage and don’t need much product to achieve it.
As they’re glosses, they’re not very long wearing but they do make you lips feel nice without that sticky feeling.

So while the colours are nice I have one major issue with these products.

On opening Depravity. I had no issue. It applied like a dream. It did need a second application to get a good colour but all in all, it was okay. Then I opened Paparazzi.

Oh. The plastic stopper had come out as well, meaning most of the gloss was now covering the wand and the stopped was stuck at on the lid. So I wiped the gloss off onto a clean finger and then tried to get it back in the tube. Once I did that I pulled the stopper down and off the wand, placing it back in the tube. Only of course this gloss is so thick and the magic of pressure meant it all forced it’s way out of the top again.
Which is demonstrated in the next four pictures.

So the excess has ended up in one of my spare empty pots. That’s fine it happens. Only it happened again. This time with Rebel. So that’s two out of three that this happened to. Add to that, there’s only 2 ml of product in these and I’ve wasted a whole lot of these products on the first time I’ve opened them. I was left with a serious sense of disappointment.

Would a recommend these? After this not really. There’s nothing really wrong with the products themselves. They’re decent glosses but you don’t get a lot of product. The normal colours have better coverage.
I am really disappointed with these due to the problem with the packaging.

MakeUp Academy Smoking’ Palette

MakeUp Academy Smoking’ Palette

Make Up Academy’s Smokin Palette is currently on sale for £6.00. If you’re a fan of smoky eyes you’ll love this.

There’s two matte shades in light skin shades. The rest are simmer shades in various colours. It also comes with a black eye pencil. The pencil is really soft and great for smoking out. It really is a stunning palette for the price.

I’m going to be totally honest here, these have been sitting on my computer for a while and I forgot to post them. Looking at the link now it’s currently out of stock. It’s quite possible with the high turnover of palettes by MUA it won’t be back. So I’ll just leave it here.

Opinion – Let’s talk about Liquid Nail Tape

Opinion – Let’s talk about Liquid Nail Tape

It’s something I see more and more cropping up on my newsfeed. On Facebook, on Instagram there are numerous posts of people getting totally excited over this new product.

If you’ve not heard of it before, it’s a product that you can use to either paint on the skin around your nails before doing sponging nail art or create nail designs. Once it’s dry and you’ve done your art can just peel it off your skin/nails.
I’ve seen these products range in price from £6.50 to £14.50 for 30ml.

Sounds amazing right? No need for using tape all over your fingers. So what is it made of? PVA glue. No, I am not kidding you.  It’s this stuff!

Known as Craft glue, Artist’s masking tape, Elmer’s glue. That’s what’s in these products. Okay so some of them are dyed but this is essentially what you’re playing for. The stuff you used to paint on the back of your hands as a kid and wait until it was dry so you could peel it off.

This stuff is cheap. You can get a whole litre for less than a fiver and even the cheapest version of liquid nail tape I can find has an over a 200% mark up. That’s right you’re paying a 200% mark up for PVA glue, which is most likely also slightly watered down.

So the alternative is to create your own. I used an old nail varnish bottle and filled it almost to the top. I then mixed in a little bit of water to thin it out a little. I now have my own liquid nail tape.

If you want to use it as tape for nail designs, just use one of your nail art brushes. Make sure you wash it out before the glue is dry and there you go. Liquid Tape. No incredible markup!

So I hope I saved you some money and gave you a good tip!

Barry M Silk Orchid Polish Review & Swatch

Barry M Silk Orchid Polish Review & Swatch

This is Barry M’s Silk finish polish in Orchid.

It’s a rich royal purple polish with a very silky finish. The finish of this polish is amazing. It really does look like silk and while that does make the colour flat, it’s one of the things I love about it.

It’s opaque in two coats and really doesn’t need a top coat. If you do use one you will lose the silk finish but you reveal a who new level of sparkle. It has reasonable chip resistance.

It costs only £3.99 from the Barry M website or other high street retailers. The other silk polishes are on my wishlist right now. I love this colour and the finish!

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Styletto vs MakeUp Academy Raven

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Styletto vs MakeUp Academy Raven

It’s another Lime Crime Dupe post!
This time it’s Raven by MakeUp Academy, it’s an exact match for Styletto by Lime Crime.

I love the packaging on LC’s lipsticks but the lids crack so easily and it feels like cheap plastic. Once the lids crack they won’t stay on. MUA’s lipsticks also feels like cheap plastic but for the price, I really wasn’t expecting more.

Where the MUA lipsticks fare better is they aren’t drying. They have a much more buttery texture.
Also if you’re not a fan of fragrance in your lipsticks, you’ll prefer MUA’s because there is no fragrance at all. It doesn’t really need a liner but one can be used to increase the longevity of Raven.

Lastly cost. This is where MakeUp Academy wins hands down.

  • Lime Crime’s lipsticks cost £12.50 from UK retailers. It has 3.5g of product in it.
  • MakeUp Academy lipsticks cost £1 from UK retailers. It has 3.8g of product in it.

No I didn’t make a typing error, these dupes really do cost just £1 with more product. So if you’re in love with Styletto but don’t want to pay a ridiculous price, find Lime Crime’s lipsticks drying or just can’t stand Doe Deere’s behaviour here’s a great alternative.

(Lipstick on my lips is Raven)

Gender lipgloss by Illamasqua Review & Swatch

Gender lipgloss by Illamasqua Review & Swatch

Illamasqua’s Intense Lipgloss in Gender is the most glorious sky blue in colour. At £16.50 for a 7ml it’s not an impulse purchase but it certainly is worth the cost.

It’s more teal in person but sky blue is a nice descriptor. For most people, it’s not your everyday lip gloss. It would be fabulous for a Halloween or costume party.

It’s quite opaque but would be a much more solid colour when using a blue liner underneath. Occ’s Pool boy pencil would be perfect for this. The brush is a little large to apply precisely so a smaller brush will also help create cleaner lines.
It has good staying power for a gloss. It won’t survive a meal but a drink or two won’t shift it too much.

All in all, it’s a fabulous colour and worth the cost.
