Clone Wars – Lime Crime Pansy Dupes from LA Splash

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Pansy Dupes from LA Splash

Quick Swatch time. This time it’s LaSplash Cosmetics vs Lime Crime.

Pansy from Lime Crime is liquid based and can be a little patchy when applied with the doe foot applicator. It will need a second layer to stop that or alternatively use a brush for an even application. Fair warning here the more layers you use the more drying it is.
Esmeralda from LaSplash is more creme based and can also come out patchy is care is not taken. Be careful not to over apply as this can cause it to crack. It’s also drying but no where near as bad as LC. It’s also got tiny particles of glitter in it which means instead of a flat matte colour you get a lot more depth with this one.
Criminal is almost exactly the same shade as Pansy. Again more creme based and needs a little care taken when applying. Over application can cause cracking. The La Splash ones also have a horrible paint fragrance when being applied but that does go when it dries.

These are all considered long wearing and smudge proof. LaSplash lives up to this. Repeated servings of oily food/drinks can cause it to start to come off as can poor preparation but they’re pretty indestructible. Lime Crime on the other hand is not smudge proof and at the first sign of any oil tends to whimper and slide off. I don’t know what happened to Lime Crime but this formulation is vastly inferior to the original Velvetines.

Cost? Lime Crime Velvetines are $20 (roughly £14) and LaSplash are $13.98 (roughly $9.50).

La Splash for me wins hands down.

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Red Velvet Dupes

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Red Velvet Dupes

Quick swatch time Lime Crime Red Velvet (original batch) vs Jeffree Star Redrum vs MakeUp Academy Reckless vs MakeUp Revolution Keep Trying For You.
The Lime Crime Velvetine and Jeffree Star Velour Lipsticks are both liquid based. The MakeUp Revolution And MakeUp Academy matte lipsticks are both creme based. Drying time is shorter for the liquid versions. Wear time is better for the creme versions.
Even though Redrum has run on the back of my hand it didn’t on my lips. If you have fine lines you might find the liquid formulation is a problem though. A good concealer or clear lip liner will stop that from happening. Jeffree Stars formula is much more forgiving on the lips and has better coverage. The creme based versions are slightly harder wearing and more forgiving on the lips.
Here’s some good news both the MakeUp Revolution and MakeUp Academy ones only cost £3 whereas the Lime Crime costs $20 (roughly £14) and Jeffree Star is £13.

Which one do you prefer?

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Styletto vs MakeUp Academy Raven

Clone Wars – Lime Crime Styletto vs MakeUp Academy Raven

It’s another Lime Crime Dupe post!
This time it’s Raven by MakeUp Academy, it’s an exact match for Styletto by Lime Crime.

I love the packaging on LC’s lipsticks but the lids crack so easily and it feels like cheap plastic. Once the lids crack they won’t stay on. MUA’s lipsticks also feels like cheap plastic but for the price, I really wasn’t expecting more.

Where the MUA lipsticks fare better is they aren’t drying. They have a much more buttery texture.
Also if you’re not a fan of fragrance in your lipsticks, you’ll prefer MUA’s because there is no fragrance at all. It doesn’t really need a liner but one can be used to increase the longevity of Raven.

Lastly cost. This is where MakeUp Academy wins hands down.

  • Lime Crime’s lipsticks cost £12.50 from UK retailers. It has 3.5g of product in it.
  • MakeUp Academy lipsticks cost £1 from UK retailers. It has 3.8g of product in it.

No I didn’t make a typing error, these dupes really do cost just £1 with more product. So if you’re in love with Styletto but don’t want to pay a ridiculous price, find Lime Crime’s lipsticks drying or just can’t stand Doe Deere’s behaviour here’s a great alternative.

(Lipstick on my lips is Raven)

Clone Wars – Poisonberry Dupe for £1?

Clone Wars – Poisonberry Dupe for £1?

I found a Poisonberry dupe, well kind of.

Makeup Revolution’s 100% Vamp is a good match for Lime Crime’s Poisonberry.

So it’s not an exact dupe but it is a nice little alternative to Lime Crime’s Poisonberry. As you can see it’s slightly pinker than Poisonberry. That can be easily fixed with a good liner such as No7’s metallic liner in Purple. In fact, any purple liner will help make it bluer should you wish to do so.

100% Vamp lipstick is creamier than Poisonberry and doesn’t dry your lips out. It also doesn’t stain in the same way as Poisonberry but you might like that. It means it doesn’t last as long. 100% Vamp also doesn’t bleed, which Poisonberry does irritatingly.

However here’s where 100% Vamp wins hands down. It costs only £1 and for that, you get 3.8g of product. Poisonberry costs £12.50 and has 3.5g of product.

So which one do you chose?

So for those of us that either don’t live in the USA, want a vegan version or just don’t like Lime Crime’s morals I’ve got you a dupe for their much praised Red Velvet Velvetines.

MUA-Reckless-vs-Lime-Crime-Red-Velvet

As promised here’s the comparison post between Red Velvet by Lime Crime and MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Reckless.

MUA’s lip lacquer is described as long lasting and kiss proof, these glide on with the ease of a gloss drying in seconds to a matt velvety texture.

Lime Crime describes Velvetines as liquid lipstick that goes on like a gloss and dries to a matte, touch-proof finish.

The main differences are the price, quantity and the product itself.

Velvetines

  • Costs £13.50
  • 0.11 oz of product
  • Liquid formulation

MUA Luxe

  • Costs £3.00
  • 12 ml of product
  • Cream formulation

Google tells me 0.11 liquid oz is 3.12 ml. So if that’s correct, there’s a whole lot more in the MUA Luxe. Even more so than my previous recommendation Matt Me by Sleek Cosmetics.

MUA-VS-LC-Wands

They’re both long stay lipsticks and both tend to last as long as each other. The down side is they’re both very drying on the lips but you do get that with all long stay lip colours. The cream formulation is slightly more forgiving than the liquid version on dry lips but not by much at all. MUA Luxe also doesn’t tend to smudge in the same way as Velvetines do. MUA Luxe tends to come off in little balls, so it doesn’t smudge but once it starts to come off, it’s quite annoying.
They both have longer drying times than a few seconds but the time is comparable. Both tend to bleed a little and need a good liner.

Velvetines contains petrolatum. Petrolatum is not a vegan ingredient. So despite claims on the packaging it’s not a vegan cosmetic.

Now for the colours. Velvetines currently only come in three colours. MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer’s come in a range of five. There is a great match for Red velvet in this range and possibly a good match for Suedeberry and Pink Velvet.

MakeUp-Academy-Reckless-Luxe-vs-Lime-Crime-Red-Velvet-Swatch

MUA’s Reckless is also a slightly deeper red than Red Velvet. Please excuse the shine, they were still slightly wet when I took this picture.

So if you’ve been dying to try Velvetines but couldn’t stand buying from Lime Crime or just couldn’t afford it, here’s a nice alternative.

Clone Wars – January Rising Dupe Alert!

Clone Wars – January Rising Dupe Alert!

I’ve just received my January Rising Lip Tar from OCC.

January Rising was a Limited Edition colour Tar from OCC. It was made to help fund transgender surgery for an employee of OCC called January Hunt. I am pleased to report she received the amount needed for her cause. However if you missed out don’t despair.

When I opened the packed I looked at the colour (it’s a beautiful hot pink) and thought ‘that looks familiar’. A short trip upstairs and I have an exact match in a product which does exactly the same as Lip Tars do.

I’ll put you out of your misery. The product I’m talking about is Sleek Cosmetics Pout Paint in Pinkini. It’s exact. I’ve swatched it on my lips, on paper but there is no difference in colour. Obviously there is a difference in the formulation. Sleek doesn’t use peppermint oil but the products do exactly the same thing. I’ll post proper dupe swatches later but I just wanted to let you know. There is a dupe.

Go Compare – Sugarpill’s Heartbreaker palette vs Lime Crime’s Aquatænia Palette

Go Compare – Sugarpill’s Heartbreaker palette vs Lime Crime’s Aquatænia Palette

I decided to do this post back when Lime Crime first showed off their Aquatænia Palette. At first glance the palettes have similar colours but given I didn’t have Heart Breaker or Aquatænia in person I didn’t feel right making a judgement call. So once Heart Breaker arrived, I waited for the Aquatænia palette to be released and purchased it too.
