How to make a Rainbow Highlighter
How to make a Rainbow Highlighter
In this video, I’ll show you how to make a rainbow highlighter (and also a mess).
What you need
- Surgical Spirit
- 7 bowls or plates for mixing
- 7 spoons for mixing
- 1 knife to break it all up
- 6 eyeshadows (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple)
- 1 Highlighter
- Paper towel
The method is really simple. Break up the highlighter. Separate into the seven bowls. Add the shadow in each bowl until you’re happy with the colour. Mix with surgical spirit until it’s like a paste and then put back in the highlighter pan. Press and leave to dry.

Sugarpill, Shrinkage and Price Rises!

So I finally got my hands on Feral today. My first thought was it’s so small! (I’ll add pictures shortly). Then I thought I had this colour already and low and behold I do by Sugarpill. Feral is a dupe for Asteria both are Limited Edition shades. Asteria was $12 with 5g and Feral is $13 for 3g. The size made me wonder about the other Sugarpill shades.
Now it’s been in the press a lot about shrinkage, how companies are keeping prices the same but reducing the size of the products you buy. So I thought I’d look at shrinkage and Sugarpill. Now since I bought most off the Sugarpill website it’s quite easy for me to track prices as they’re all listed on the PO. Sugarpill’s cost per gram has gone up a fair bit over 4 years.
Lumi bought in 2012 for $12 with 6g of product, is now listed at $13 for 4g of product. You get a third less for a dollar more. OUCH!
Goldilux bought in 2012 for $12 with 5g of product is now listed at $14 for 4g of product.
Asylum bought in 2012 for $12 with 5.5g of product is now listed at $13 for 3g of product.
It’s pretty similar across the board with the older shadows. They’re all roughly $1-2 more for 1-2g less product.
But that’s not it. I have the Electrocuties and they’re all 5g each. These I got off Love-makeup.co.uk. They’re currently listed as 2.5g on the Sugarpill website and they’ve not gone down in price (Tempala has the price at time of release listed and it’s $16). They’re the same price for half the product. OUCH!
Then I noticed something about my Penelope. The weight on the bottom of my jar is 3g and it’s very new (December). The website lists it at 4g. Guess I’ll have to take that up with them.
Also shipping has increased A LOT. Shipping was $10, around the same price as JS and Lime Crime. It’s now $16, which is fucking madness and unless it’s LTD, I won’t be buying from Sugarpill direct due to that (or I can make minimum order).
Will this stop me buying from them? Honestly, it’s going to give me pause but no. I understand things get more expensive and prices have to rise but wow this took me by surprise.
The trials of Trinket (and how to do customer service right)
So I was sitting on the Sugarpill site and saw as soon as Trinket went up. I popped it in my cart and then went after the Limited Edition Shadows. Turns out this wasn’t the best idea. Despite having it in my cart, getting all the way through paypal and it all being completed, turns out I was not one of the lucky ones.
So I sat there happy I’d got it but realised I hadn’t had an order confirmation. No biggie, I mean there were lots of people trying to order. Waited a few days, then thought I’d log onto my Sugarpill account. No order…. WHAT?
I logged out and then saw it. My computer has saved my old Sugarpill account details. That’s account is attached to an old hacked email address. Awww crap. So I gave it a couple of days. If it shipped, no worries. It didn’t ship.
Bollocks.
So I emailed them off the email attached to my paypal account. I expected it to take a while. I gave them two working days and then emailed again. I got a reply the same day. They were super sweet and told me I wasn’t lucky, like I’d suspected.
We’ve had a little back an forth but they’ve been so sweet. I didn’t really want the brush (I have it, it’s great by the way) so I asked if I could have a loose shadow instead. They’ve said yes!
So I am getting a loose shadow for free for the inconvenience of not getting the Limited packaging of Trinket. I’d say that’s a win.
Here’s the thing. They had no idea it’d be this popular. Trinket sold out in the first minute. Damn crazy. No one could have predicted that. The customer service response was amazing. Apologetic. Offering something to those who missed out. Sugarpill rocks and to me they’ve proved they’re worth every single penny.
