Mud Pie nails polish from MakeUp Academy review & swatch

Mud Pie nails polish from MakeUp Academy review & swatch

Makeup Academy’s nail polish in Mud Pie costs £1 from MUA online or from your local Superdrug. You get 6.2ml of product for that price.

It’s simply described as brown. It is brown but I’d describe it as clay mud brown.

Please excuse the label on this bottle, the sticker has started to wear off. With the new design of the bottle this will not happen with your polish.
The new design also includes an improved brush. That’s great because the brush in this is simply awful. Given it’s a £1 polish I wasn’t expecting it to be prefect. While the old brush makes the application slightly sloppy. the new brush has no such issues.
It’s not very chip resistant, a top coat will help greatly. However this costs a pound. I’m not expecting high chip resistance. It’s lasted two days on me on occasions which is a great performance.
It has a lovely shine on it and doesn’t pick up on the flaws in my nail surface.

I really like this polish, if not the colour so much. I’m much more of a bright nail person. It’s a nice neutral nail polish if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’d certainly recommend this. It’s cheap and very good for the price.

MakeUp Academy Can’t Stop Lip Gloss Review & Swatch

MakeUp Academy Can’t Stop Lip Gloss Review & Swatch

Can’t stop is a sheer lip gloss from Makeup Academy. It costs £1 from the MUA website or from Superdrug. It has 15ml of product.

It’s described as pink although it’s more of a dark brown in real life. It’s a sheer lip gloss so all you’re going to get is a hint of colour which is exactly what it does. It can be put directly onto the lips for a natural look or layed over a lipstick to give it a nice shine.
It comes in a tube with a flattened nozzle so you spread it directly onto your lips. I like this tube for application. It’s easy to take out as this is all you need to apply it.
The texture is just right. It stays put, is not too runny or thick. It does have a sweet smell which you may or may not like. I personally like the smell.
It’ll stay put for a few hours but like any lip gloss it won’t outlast drink or a meal. Given the cost that’s not a big issue.

Do I recommend this? I’m not a lip gloss person but I do like this. If you’re into natural looking glosses this is well worth it.

MakeUp Academy Mythical Dragon Nail Polish Review & Swatch

MakeUp Academy Mythical Dragon Nail Polish Review & Swatch

Makeup Academy’s Fashionsta glitter nail polish in Mystical Dragon costs £5 (currently on sale at £1.50). You get 11 ml of product. This is an online only product.

As you can see this is a beautiful teal glitter. It can be used as a top coat or as an all over glitter polish. If you want to use it as a glitter polish you need to do five or six coats. However this dries quite quickly and you don’t need to wait too long between layers if you’re going for full on coverage.
It’s a glitter polish so it’s really really chip resistant but it’s also a nightmare to get off. That’s a feature of every glitter polish out there.
It doesn’t really need a top coat but you can add one for extra shine.

It’s cheap, simply gorgeous and chip resistant. Yes I love this polish.

MakeUp Academy Irreplaceable Power Pout Review & Swatch

MakeUp Academy Irreplaceable Power Pout Review & Swatch

Makeup Academy’s Power Pout in Irreplaceable costs £3 from MUA online or from Superdrug. It’s a lip balm that has a hint of colour.

Irreplaceable is a nice pink colour that translates nicely onto the lips.
As it’s a colour and a balm in one it feels very nice on the lips. This is a very good option if your lips are dry. It’s very moisturising and doesn’t settle in the dry patches on your lips.
It comes in a pencil shape, that you twist up as it goes blunt. I like this pencil application of this product. As it goes blunt, precise application can get harder. However this is on the sheer side, so a sharp outer edge is not necessary. This tingles when it goes on my lips which is something you might not like.

Do I recommend this product. It’s a great option for when you want a splash of colour but need a lip balm. Yes these are worth the cost. Cheap and cheerful.

Hoochie Lip Tar Review & Swatch

Hoochie Lip Tar Review & Swatch

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hoochie costs from £11.50 from Love Make Up. It can also be found in Selfridges. It contains 10ml of product.

Hoochie is deep magenta purple liquid lipstick (occ calls it an extreme magenta). As it’s a liquid lipstick the application of this is not straight from the tube. It comes with a small lip brush and you have to use that to apply it.

You need a tiny tiny amount to get good coverage. Take far less out of the tube than you think you’re going to need. This stuff is really really pigmented.
Apply from the middle of your lips and work up and outwards. If you do use too much blot with a bit of tissue. You also might find that it feathers without a lip liner. That can mean one of two things. You’ve applied too much or simply you’re like me (getting fine lines) and need to use a lip liner. If you use a clear one like Urban Decay’s Ozone, there is no need to colour match.
It also contains peppermint so it feels really fresh when you apply it to your lips. It’s also vegan, which is great.
All the lip tars can be mixed so you can make your own custom shades.

I’ve read a lot of reviews that rave about the longevity of the lip tars. While they last better than my normal lipsticks, they do not have the extended wear I’ve heard about. These will outlast drinks but not a meal.

Do I recommend these? Oh yes I do. They’re a fabulous product. Vegan and come in a great range of colours. You’ll love them. I promise.

MakeUp Academy Let’s Meet Gloss Review and Swatch

MakeUp Academy Let’s Meet Gloss Review and Swatch

Let’s Meet is a sheer lip gloss from Makeup Academy. It costs £1 from the MUA website or from Superdrug. It has 15ml of product.

It’s described as pink although it’s more of a beige pink in real life.

Custom Green Palette from the Fashionista MUA range

Custom Green Palette from the Fashionista MUA range

The Fashionisa range from MakeUp Academy features buildable palettes. You can get 4 shades for £7 or 6 shades for £10. They can include a choice of over 40 shades of shadow and/or over 20 shades of blusher/bronzer. They can be bought for £4.00 each (currently discounted to £1.65).

I chose to make a palette of green shades. The shades I chose were meadows, envy, fresh air and woodland.

  • Meadows is the lightest green shade. It’s a highly shimmery mint green shade, perfect for a green highlight.
  • Envy is the darker of the mint shades. It has the same intense shine.
  • Fresh Air is a forest green colour. It’s slightly duo tone.
  • Woodland is a very dark English green. This is very duo tone. There’s a nice dark green base and an intense forest green shimmer on the top. Its a fantastic shade.

These shades are all highly pigmented. They’re incredibly blendable.  I can’t praise these shadow highly enough. For the price they’re amazing.
I do have slight issues with creasing on these sadly. That’s even with an eyeshadow base. However it takes a good 8 hours before that happens, so perfectly good for a work day or even a night out. If you’ve got dry lids or even normal lids you’ll probably find these perfect.

I like these, I like these a lot. I love that you can make your own palette. I love that they’re so pigmented for the price. Very much worth it.

MakeUp Academy Leo Nail Constellation Review & Swatch

MakeUp Academy Leo Nail Constellation Review & Swatch

MakeUp Academy’s Nail Constellation in Leo costs £3.00 online or in Superdrug.

This lovely nail caviar is part of the constellation set. Leo is full of lovely lilac and teal pearls.

It’s not hard to apply but doesn’t stay attached to the nail for very long. The colour on the pearls is only coated on the outside and will rub off throughout the day. The funnel helps with the application,

Application

  • Get a bowl, a piece of paper and your nail polish.
  • Use a base coat and paint all your nails either a complimentary or contrasting colour
  • Once dry use a top coat that’s slightly old and thicker. Paint the nail, thickly with the top coat.
  • Straight away pour the nail caviar over the wet nail.
  • While it’s setting push the little balls at the end of the nail down, to create a smooth edge.
  • Then press down the caviar on the nail gently to anchor them into place.
  • If you’re doing your other nails, repeat the above process.
  • To extend the longevity, paint a little top coat on the very end of your nails.

You can place a top coat on the top of the caviar. It will extend the longevity and prevent the colour rubbing off but it does ruin the look some what.

Despite the wear issues of nail caviar this is worth it for creating an evening or party look. The cost helps with that a lot as it’s very cheap. I do recommend this product.

Gamma Nail Polish by Illamasqua Review & Swatch

Gamma Nail Polish by Illamasqua Review & Swatch

Illamasqua’s Gamma nail polish. It’s costs £14.50 from the Illamasqua website. You get 15ml of product.

Gamma is described as a neon orange.

It certainly is that. This is the most brilliant orange polish I’ve ever seen in my life. It almost glows in natural light.
The bottle brush is thin but it doesn’t leave marks when applying the polish to the nails. I’d like the brush to be a little thicker but it’s certainly not a bad brush.
It’s opaque in one good coat or two less well done ones. It does have a high gloss shine. It is chip resistant so will last a couple of days.

Is it worth it? Yes. It’s a lovely hight shine and a brilliant colour.

Sleek Makeup Fandango Purple Review & Swatch

Sleek Makeup Fandango Purple Review & Swatch

Meet Sleek’s Matte Me in Fandango Purple.
It’s available via the Sleek website or in your local Superdrug for £4.99. You get 6ml of product for that price.

This is a cream based matt lip gloss. As a result it’s quite drying but that’s a feature of every matte long stay lipstick.
As you can see from the shot about it’s a fantastic fuchsia purple and dries nice and evenly.
It’s also very good at the long stay element. It won’t outlast a greasy meal but I’ve yet to meet a lip gloss (or lipstick) that does. It has lasted the entirety of a 12 hour shift at work, including a lunch break.

The packaging is a bit square and basic but for the cost it really can’t be faulted. The doe foot applicator is perfect for this, however you can dip a brush in it for a more precise application.
It’s also Vegan, with no animal products used in the production.

Do I recommend this? Yes. If you’re looking for a long lasting matte lipstick, this is great and at a very small cost.
