I’ve been trying to view my collection differently recently. There was a post on Reddit in MakeupRehab (which I can’t find) which talked about viewing makeup, not as a collection but rather something to use. So I want to switch my language from collection to inventory. However, because we are so close to the end of the year I might not do it yet for the title of these posts but I will try to do it in the rest of the posts.
I’ve been doing a lot of destashing and there have been changes all over, so I feel I need to look a little deeper at my inventory this month. We’re not quite at the close of the year but I am already planning next year. So for me, now seems to be a good time to look deeper.
Nail Polish

There’s a jump in value but it’s not actual purchases. It’s top and base coats that I didn’t actually include. I don’t know why but as I’ve been clearing things out I recognise I need to total everything for my clarity on my inventory.
Slow movement on this section is fine. Nail Polish doesn’t expire, so there’s no urgency here and I’m pretty comfortable with the colours I have. The only I might need to replace is my silver polish, which I am using up fairly fast.
Skincare
As for skincare, there’s been rises and falls in sections.
There’s a rise due to an ill-advised eye cream purchase but that is the only section with a rise due to a purchase. There is a rise in value the moisturisers, face masks and cleansers due to a few samples I’ve gotten my hands on. They’re currently on the first to use list, as soon as I finish my current items.
Skincare is one of those that’s easy to use but also due to the way I use it monstrously slow to use up. Body wash has been its own issue. I’ve part used a couple of washes because they matched up with something else I was using. That meant of course when I was done with that item I chose a different body wash. Moisturiser has seen falls but that’s more a destash thing. I’ve actually kept a lot of the items I’ve destashed in moisturiser but they’ve been turned into a Franken moisturiser. The reason I’ve not really seen a real fall in this section is the same reason for the lack of fall in eye cream, face oil and serum. I use them in a sequence, for a month or ten days. So like the body wash issue, they’re getting used but I am not using them until the end and moving on to the next one.
I’m finding this a little frustrating but I am not sure how to handle that over the next year. I like my system as it is now because it keeps my skin on its best behaviour. I’m probably just going to keep going, just the cycle of items will get smaller as they do eventually get used up.

Makeup
There’s a jump in my blush mostly due to the moving back of blushes into my collection. I missed my powder blushes and I’ve to put them all into a z-palette.
I have not bought £300 worth of eyeshadow. I have spent £170 on eyeshadow I am ashamed to say. It’s all Lime Crime. They’re my one eyeshadow weakness. There’s a couple of things that have come back into my collection and a few I totally didn’t realise I had not taken images of. I mean seriously, how did I miss those? I’ve had them well over 6 months!
Speaking of purchases I have purchased a bunch of lipgloss. They’re not quite the cost price that’s in my collection as they’re mini’s. I always list the repurchase price rather than actual value so yes I bought some but no I did not spend that much.
I’ve destashed a lot of pomades from my brow products as they were getting older. I did not see myself using them as they were brightly coloured and I’m currently my natural colour. I’ve destashed a few items that I don’t use, namely a green concealer, a KVD liner and a few contour products. The biggest destash was in the loose eyeshadow section, I do not use them, I really prefer my pressed shadows and I had to admit that to myself. So other than a couple that I do use they’re all gone. Speaking of, I destashed a bunch of single shadows I don’t use either. I will be investing in an empty palette this month to help me get use out of the others. Other notable destashes is a mascara I didn’t like, a KVD powder foundation and a bunch of old lip toppers.
Now it does appear I’ve lost a lot of lipstick but there is a couple of things going on here. I’ve destashed a lot and frozen a bunch of others. Yes, you read that right frozen. I’m okay with that for now. If they get spoilt that’ll be okay with me but I want to see if I can preserve them for the next year as I’m targetting a particular set of items.
I’ve used up a concealer, which I am super pleased about. I also used up my favourite face primer Hydro Veil but it was old and it did need to be used. I ‘might’ repurchase it once I’ve used the others I currently own.
