We all love a wing and they’ve been in fashion for the longest time. It doesn’t look like they’re leaving either. So if you’re struggling to master the winged liner look I have four tips for you.
Know your eye shape
It’s really important when trying to get the perfect winged liner you take into account your eye shape and lid space. The traditional wing does not work well on some eye shapes and if you’ve got hooded or mono lids it’s mostly a no. If for some reason it’s not working for you, look up your eye shape and lid space and then look for a winged liner that suits it.
Find the right tools & products
The right tools can make all the difference to your final look. There are about as many ways to apply liner as there are combinations of how to apply liner. From pencil to liquid to gel, there’s a lot of choices. Not only that but what you apply it with can make all the difference. Some find an angled brush better than a thin liner brush. You might find the applicator in one eyeliner pen is better than another. Don’t be afraid to try it all.
Practice
As much as I hate to type that out at the end of the day it’ll all come down to practice. The more you do it the better you’ll get. 99% of people won’t notice a slightly wonky liner, so don’t be afraid of going out with it imperfect. If you’re worried, try doing it just before you take it all off at the end of the day. Do it often and you’ll get the hang of it.
Pictures
For you to see the progress make sure you take pictures and look back on them. It’s also a really useful tool to see which shapes suit you best and which work with which shadows. Take a look at the ones where it doesn’t look right. Check the angle, check the thickness and then look at those that do. Try and work that in next time you do your liner.
At the end of the day don’t be afraid to falter, it’s the way we learn. After all, it’s only makeup.
